Unicaja Malaga reached a new agreement with Dani Diez to extend his contract for two more years, until the end of the 2019-20 season, the club announced Wednesday. Diez (2.02 meters, 25 years old) averaged 4.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games this season, his third with the club. Diez helped Unicaja win the 7DAYS EuroCup title in 2017, scoring 9 points in do-or-die Game 3 of the Finals against Valencia Basket. Diez started his career with Real Madrid and also played for Gipuzkoa Basket before joining Unicaja. Diez helped Madrid win the Copa del Rey and reach the EuroLeague championship game in the 2013-14 season. He has also been a member of the Spanish national team. "I thank the club for trusting in me and will try to give it back by playing well and helping them win," Diez said after the agreement. "We go back to the EuroCup and that is exciting for us, after lifting that trophy last year. It was something exceptional that we won't forget. We will try to fight to win it again, even when it is tough because a lot of high-level teams will play in it."
