Azovmash tabs combo guard Paunic

BC Azovmash Mariupol added young talent to its backcourt by inking combo guard Ivan Paunic to a one-year deal on Tuesday. Paunic (1.94 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Canadian Solar Bologna, where he averaged 3.2 points in 6 Italian League games last season. He started the 2011-12 season with BC Nizhny Novgorod, averaging 10 points and 3.4 rebounds in 18 Russian League games before joining Virtus. Paunic has also played for Aris Thessaloniki in Greece, BC Oostende in Belgium and Vojvodina, Mornar Bar, Avala Ada and Partizan in his native Serbia. He is also a member of the Serbian national team and helped it to win the silver medal at EuroBasket 2009. He has won three youth competitions with his national teams. Paunic won the U18 European Championships in 2005 and the U20 European Championships in 2006 with Serbia and Montenegro. In 2007, Paunic helped Serbia to get the gold medal at the U20 European Championships.
