LOTTOMATICA hires head coach Filipovski
Saso FilipovskiLottomatica Roma named Saso Filipovski as its new head coach, replacing Matteo Boniciolli. He signed a contract until the end of the 2011-12 season. Filipovski, 36, began the season on the CSKA Moscow coaching staff, but left together with Dusko Vujosevic when the latter was relived of his duties. Roma will be Filipovski’s second stint as a head coach in the Euroleague. He worked his way up the coaching ladder at Union Olimpija in his native Slovenia, working as an assistant under the legendary Zmago Sagadin, before taking over the head coaching reins at age 29 for the 2003-04 season and leading Olimpija to the Euroleague Top 16 and later adding two more Slovenian League crowns in two seasons as the boss. In the summer of 2006, Filipovski moved to Polish side PGE Turow and proceeded to lift the club to new heights by reaching the Polish League playoff finals and in its ULEB Cup debut, reaching that competition’s Final Eight. He also coached one season in Russia with Lokomotiv Rostov before joining CSKA over the summer. He inherits a Lottomatica team that finished 5-5 in Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season Group B and will compete with his former team, Olimpija, as well as Maccabi Electra and Regal FC Barcelona in Top 16 Group F.
