Terrell Lyday collected 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists to Triumph
Lyubertsy to clinch first place in Group E by downing Benetton Olympic Fribourg 76-61 on Tuesday at home in Moscow. Triumph, already advanced to the elimination rounds, raised its record to
8-1 while Benetton Olympic Fribourg dropped to 3-6.
Sergey Toporov had 14 points, Fedor Likholitov added 10 with 8 boards and
Mire Chatman 9 for Triumph. David Esterkamp led Benetton Olympic
Fribourg with 18 points, Tresore Quidom nailed 15, Pascal David Perrier 10,
while Marcus Sloan had a double-double of 13 points and 13
rebounds.
Esterkamp and Quidomoe fueled Fribourg early in the
match, to get a 8-12 cushion. Fedor Likholitov put in front Triumph
Lyubertsy 15-13, and Toporov psuhed them from downtown to the first
double digit margin, 28-17 with two minutes left in the first quarter. There
was just one more basket, nailed from the three points land by Quidome to
finish the first quarter on 28-20 for the hosts. Igor Zamanskiy highlighted
with two mid range jumpers a 8-0 run for Triumph to start the second quarter
and reach a 36-20 advantage, then Terrell Lyday extended the cushion to
39-22before the defenses prevailed and Lyday again fixed the final 43-28 at
halftime, after Esterkamp scored a pair form the foul line. Back from the
lockers, Quidome from downtown kept Friboug close and Pascal
Perrier-David cut the difference to 45-37, before a three-point play
converted by Lyday gave another outsized 59-43 margin to Triumph.
Back-to-back baskets from downtown nailed by Oliver Vogt and Quidome reduced
the difference to 59-49 at the end of the third quarter. Perrier-David again
fueled Fribourg's hopes,, scoring from beyond the arc to be on 59-52,
then Ognjen Askrabic hit a mid-range jumper to have again a double-figure cushion,
64-54 at the midway point of the quarter. Mire Chatman scored 5 consecutive points late in the last quarter to seal the contest by giving Triumph a
72-58 margin with less than 2minutes left and with 2 free throws
Likholitov fixed the final 76-61.
