The Take

Baskonia will try to protect its home floor at Fernando Buesa Arena and take a lead in its EuroLeague playoff series against CSKA Moscow for the first time. The two teams have played three times in a best-of-five series this decade; Baskonia has never won more than a game and has always returned to Vitoria-Gasteiz with a 0-2 deficit. This Game 3 is new territory for both teams and the packed arena at the site of the Final Four in less than a month will be rocking.

Previously in the series

CSKA used a big second half to register a convincing 94-68 victory in Game 1. Sergio Rodriguez led the winners with 19 points on 5-for-6 three-point shooting and 5 assists. Two days later, however, Baskonia bounced back by overpowering CSKA 68-78 as Darrun Hilliard paced the winning attack with 16 points, while Vincent Poirier tallied 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 steals. The victory was Baskonia's first over CSKA in Moscow since the 2005 Final Four – a run of 15 consecutive defeats and snapped CSKA's 21-game playoff home-court winning streak.

Marquee matchup

Vincent Poirier wreaked havoc on the CSKA defense in Game 2, pulling down more rebounds (15) than any player in a EuroLeague playoff game in more than eight years. In addition to his numbers, Poirier's intensity-filled style of play gets his teammates and fans involved. CSKA's veteran centers Othello Hunter and Kyle Hines have not had much success stopping Poirier this season, but they certainly have the tools and skills to slow him down.

Keys to victory: Baskonia

The two teams have played three consecutive games, including a Round 30 clash in Moscow, and Baskonia has proven it can play and hold its own against CSKA after winning Game 2 and leading for the majority of that final regular-season clash. In Game 3, in front of its fans, Baskonia will need to use the energy from its fans to get another quality start. It would not hurt if veterans Tornike Shengelia and Matt Janning, both returning from injuries, would be able to contribute more and add depth to the Baskonia rotation.

Keys to victory: CSKA

After hitting 60% of its two-point shots and connecting on 13 of 23 attempts from long range in Game 1, CSKA made just 46.9% of its twos and 9 of 30 from long range. It was the difference between a 26-point win and a 10-point loss. CSKA has plenty of great shooters and will need to find its scoring touch in Game 3 unless it wants to find itself with its back to the wall.

Head Coaches

PERASOVIC, VELIMIR
KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz
"After winning on the road, we have more options taking the series home. We are aware of the difficulty of the opponent but it's also true that having a 1-1 with two games at home is positive. They are an experienced team that has lost very few games and it won't be easy, but we do not have to think about it too much. We will be in front of our people and we are eager to play a good game."
ITOUDIS, DIMITRIS
CSKA Moscow
"We go to Vitoria to play better game than we did in Game 2 in Moscow."

Players

HUERTAS, MARCELINHO
KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz
"The team is feeling well on all fronts. The mind controls it all and we must be ready to face any script for the game. We must keep them at a low scoring, that's what's best for us, and then we have to try to run and play transitions."
KURBANOV, NIKITA
CSKA Moscow
"We know what to expect in means of basketball and atmosphere in the gym. We have the most important games of the season so far in front of us, and our goal is very clear."
