Hey, welcome back to my blog!
We are seven games from the end of the regular season. And we are two wins away from the EuroLeague playoffs. We won our last game against Maccabi and the games that we lost in the last minutes or seconds are coming back to us like a boomerang. BOOOMMMM! Stupid loses. Khimki, Zalgiris, Valencia, Baskonia :( grrrr… But we are still alive and fighting for our dreams and for something that nobody thought that we could achieve. Like last season winning the EuroCup!
On the court we are enemies. Many times we talk trash with each other. We try to do everything to win; that’s obvious. That’s why we are here, in the EuroLeague. But when the game ends we respect each other, because we know how much we need to sacrifice, how much we need to work to get to this point in our careers. Nobody gave us anything for free in this world.
For example, we have a 0-4 record against Baskonia this season in the EuroLeague and ACB. We are really pissed, they won and there is nothing we can do about it now. But after one of the games we were flying back together on the same plane and we played against each other as well. We played team Mario Kart on Nintendo Switch. Four on four, Unicaja against Baskonia – me, Nemanja Nedovic, Jeff Brooks and James Augustine against Jayson Granger, Marcelinho Huertas, Matt Janning and Roddy Beaubois – on Mario Kart; can you believe that?!?!?! It was amazing! We should start a league for this! E-sport is trendy right now, so it would be a great addition to our everyday routine :)
Unfortunately, we lost that game as well. Haha. But it was fun. Beaubois was a killer, just like on the court :)
Soon we will visit our old EuroCup champion friends, Alen Omic in Crvena Zvezda and Dejan Musli in Brose Bamberg. For sure they will be motivated against us. It’s always this way. Against your old teams, you play great most of the time. James Augustine is having an amazing season all the way, but against Khimki and CSKA he was especially unstoppable! Jayson Granger hit some big shots against Unicaja this season. I remember Ryan Toolson last year with Zenit; he came to Malaga and scored 6 or 7 threes! Yeah, it’s great to play games like this. That will always be extra motivation and will never change.
After playing the tournaments for the national cups, the most important moments are coming – fighting for the playoffs in the EuroLeague and fighting for the best spot before the playoffs in domestic leagues. Every game counts, there is no more room for mistakes. You need to play solid at home and be competitive away. The truth is that the further you go, the better you play as a team. We haven't played our best yet, but still, we were able to win against really tough opponents. I can’t wait to see us in our best shape in a couple of weeks.
I want to wish all of you a Happy Easter (I know there’s still time for that, but maybe I won’t be able to write these wishes later :P ) and all the best during these hard winter days.
