EuroBasket 2009 qualifying: Bulgaria wins second
Ibrahim Jabber - Bulgaria (Photo: FIBA Europe) Bulgaria lifted its record to 2-0 and Hungary dealt Italy a second defeat in as many games in Group A of the EuroBasket 2009 qualifying tournament. Bulgaria busted out for a second victory in as many tries, blasting Finland by 68-90 on the road. It was Finland's opening game in the group, so it's record is 0-1. Todor Stoykov led the winners with 28 points, while Deyan Ivanov added 24, Filip Videnov 12 and Ibby Jabber 10 for the winners. Hanno Mottola led Finland with 21 points. Bulgaria took a quick 1-7 lead on Stoykov's first three-pointer and kept stretching the lead to 22-37 in the second quarter, although Finland cut the difference to 39-34 at halftime. With the first 7 points after the break, however, Bulgaria was way ahead again, this time to stay. Hungary shocked italy 64-68 with a great defensive effort, rallying from 5 points behind early in the fourth quarter to seal the victory on Istvan Nemeth's layup with 12 seconds left. Marton Bader paced Hungary with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Nemeth added 12 points. Valerio Amoroso led Italy with 21 points.
