Valencia finds new coach in Vidorreta

Spanish League champion Valencia Basket and Txus Vidorreta penned a one-year deal  Tuesday to make him the team's new head coach. Vidorreta, 51, arrives from Iberostar Tenerife, which he led to the Spanish League playoffs last season. He also helped the team win the FIBA Champions League title, which was the club's first trophy. He started his professional coaching career with Bilbao and also worked La Palma, Alicante and Estudiantes in Spain. He led Bilbao from the Spanish third division to the top level in Spain and an appearance in the EuroCup semifinals in 2009. Vidorreta has also worked as assistant coach with the Spanish national team, helping it win a gold medal at EuroBasket 2015 and a bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Vidorreta replaces Pedro Martinez, who led the team to the Spanish League title and reached the 7DAYS EuroCup and Spanish Copa del Rey finals last season.

"I am delighted and tremendously happy to join Valencia Basket," Vidorreta said. "It is a thrilling challenge to coach one of the top teams in Europe."
