MVP Llull out indefinitely with torn ACL
Reigning Turkish Airlines EuroLeague MVP Sergio Llull of Real Madrid suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Wednesday, which will sideline him indefinitely. Llull (1.90 meters, 29 years old) went down while playing with the Spanish national team against Belgium in a preparation game for EuroBasket 2017. The injury was initially diagnosed at Hospital Quiron Salud in Tenerife and Llull is expected to be seen by the Real Madrid medical staff before a decision on the recovery process is taken. Since recovery from a torn ACL can take up to a full year, he will surely miss the EuroBasket tournament as well as most – if not all – of the EuroLeague season. Llull has consistently been one of the best players in the continent in the last decade and comes off his best season in which he was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team and chosen MVP of the season after he averaged 16.5 points and 5.9 assists in taking Real Madrid to the 2017 Final Four in Istanbul.
