Panathinaikos plucks Papapetrou from rival Olympiacos
Panathinaikos Athens fortified its frontline by signing Ioannis Papapetrou, a player the Greens will be relieved not to have to play against anymore. The contract is for three seasons. Papapetrou (2.07 meters, 24 years old) spent the past five seasons with Panathinaikos's archrival Olympiacos Piraeus. He comes off his best season with 6.8 points and 3.6 rebounds – both career highs – in 31 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances, including 12 in the starting lineup. Papapetrou has amassed 602 points and 300 rebounds in 114 career EuroLeague appearances. He helped Olympiacos reach – and played in – the EuroLeague championship game in both 2015 and 2017. Papapetrou played high school basketball in Florida and one year of college basketball at the University of Texas before beginning his professional career with Olympiacos. His trophy case includes a pair of Greek League titles. Papapetrou has also suited for the Greek national team at the junior and senior levels.
