Herbalife Gran Canaria turned its first-ever Turkish Airlines EuroLeague home game into a basketball celebration by downing FC Barcelona 87-86 in dramatic fashion. Former Gran Canaria players Kyle Kuric and Kevin Pangos came ready to play on a court they know very well. Kuric was the top scorer of the game with 24 points and just 2 missed shots and Pangos added 11 points in his first EuroLeague game against Gran Canaria. Barcelona had beaten Gran Canaria 98-78 in the Spanish League barely three weeks ago and led 75-80 with over four minutes left. That is when a pair of EuroLeague rookies took matters into their won hands.
Chris Evans was the X-factor for Gran Canaria, scoring 8 of his 19 points in the next three minutes, dunking off a steal, hitting free throws and scoring in transition for an 85-84 Gran Canaria lead. When Kuric and Chris Singleton hit free throws for a 85-86 score, Gran Canaria needed a hero to win the game and found one in Clevin Hannah. In just his second EuroLeague game, he drew a foul and calmly made free throws with 3.6 seconds left. When Pangos missed at the buzzer, the Gran Canaria fans had the chance to celebrate their team's historic first EuroLeague win!
