Unics signs ex-champ Kaimakoglou
Kostas Kaimakoglou - PanathinaikosUnics Kazan of Russia, a wild card recipient for the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds, has added one of the most versatile players in the competition, combo forward Kostas Kaimakoglou, with a two-year deal, the club announced Wednesday. Kaimakoglou (2.04 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Panathinaikos Athens, the team with whom he won the Turkish Airlines Euroleague title in 2011. Last season, Kaimakoglou averaged 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds off the bench for the Greens as they returned to the Final Four, but lost in the semis. His 44.1% accuracy on three-pointers ranked him 10th overall in the competition and third among forwards. Kaimakoglou spent the first two years of his pro career with Near East in Athens, then the next six with Maroussi, with whom he made his Euroleague debut in 2009-10, averaging 9.6 points as the team went from the qualifying rounds to the brink of the playoffs.
