2012 Olympics men's basketball: July 29 to August 12
USA beats Spain 107-100 to get the gold medal, Russia wins bronze!
The United States of America conquered their 14th Olympic gold medal by downing Spain 107-100 in the final in London, Great Britain on Sunday afternoon. Just as in Beijing 2008, USA finished the tournament undefeated but Spain led several times throughout the game and forced its opponent to give nothing but its best to get the gold medal. Kevin Durant led the winners with 30 points. Pau Gasol led Spain with 24 points. Two-time Euroleague champion Juan Carlos Navarro of FC Barcelona Regal added 21 for Spain, that trailed 83-82 after three quarters. Russia won its first Olympic medal as an independent country by edging Argentina 77-81 in the Bronze Medal game at the O2, home of the 2013 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four, on Sunday. Former Euroleague winner Alexey Shved paced the winners with 25 points,. Reigning Euroleague MVP Andrei Kirilenko added 20 while Eurocup champion Vitaly Fridzon of BC Khimki had 19 points for Russia. Former Euroleague MVP Manu Ginobili led Argentina with 21 points. Follow all national team competitions every summer right here on Euroleague.net!

Olympic Qualifying Tournament
Russia and Lithuania are London bound. The two national teams won their respective semifinal tilts Saturday at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Caracas, Venezuela, to secure their place at the 2012 Olympic Games starting at the end of the month in the British capital. The last remaining spot among the 12 in the Olympic event will be decided Sunday when the losers of Saturday’s games, Nigeria and the Dominican Republic, square off in a winner-takes-all battle. Russia took charge with a big second quarter and never looked back in beating Nigeria 77-85 behind 22 points and 6 assists from CSKA Moscow guard Alexey Shved. Lithuania took care of business with a 109-83 pasting of the Dominicans as Zalgiris playmaker Mantas Kalnietis ran the show with 9 points and 9 assists.
