FC Barcelona Regal signs Abrines
One of the most promising young talents in European basketball officially switched Turkish Airlines Euroleague teams on Wednesday, when FC Barcelona Regal announced that shooting guard Alex Abrines inked a four-year deal with his new club. Abrines (1.98 meters, 18 years old) arrives from Unicaja Malaga, where he averaged 2.5 points in 6 Euroleague games last season. He boosted his numbers up to 13.4 points in 16 Spanish second division games with Unicaja's vinculated team Clinicas Rincon. Abrines had a 31-point effort in a Spanish League games against Asefa Estudiantes. He has shined in youth competitions, leading the Spanish U18 national team to win the European Championships in 2011. Abrines earned tournament MVP honors, averaging 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 9 games. Abrines also won a bronze medal with Spain at the U20 European Championships this summer. He hit the game-winning three-pointer in the bronze medal game to make Spain beat Serbia 66-67.
