Efes breaks club records with "perfect game"

You rarely, if ever, hear a coach call his team's performance perfect. But Anadolu Efes Istanbul head coach Ergin Ataman did just that after his team drubbed visiting Buducnost VOLI Istanbul 106-88 on Tuesday, and in the process set a couple of club records in points scored and performance index rating.

"We had 27 assists and 46 rebounds, with very good field goal percentages," Ataman explained. "It was a perfect game for us, especially on offense, and in the second half also on defense."

Efes outrebounded the visitors 46 to 23, and had 15 more assists than Buducnost during the 40 minutes. The hosts made 26-of-41 two-pointers and 13-of-23 triples. Despite just 25 missed shots, Efes still grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.

It felt as a "perfect game" not only because of all those numbers, but because this was the best performance ever for Efes in a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game. A PIR of 155 shattered the club's previous, 14-year-old best of 139. It was also the ninth-highest PIR by any team in EuroLeague history.

Moreover, with 106 points scored, Efes set a new club record for scoring on its home floor, while the 38-point margin marks for the biggest home win for Efes in the competition. A 59-110 road win over Olympiacos Piraeus back in December 2004 still serves as Efes record for points scored and margin of victory.

For Efes, which improved to 9-4 record and remained in the fourth place in the standings, there was no better way to boost its confidence before a trip to face CSKA Moscow, a team it has yet to beat in the Russian capital this century.
