Milan signs Omic as Tarczewski to undergo surgery

AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan moved quickly to retain the strength of its frontcourt by signing Alen Omic to replace Kaleb Tarczewski in the front court for five or six weeks, the club announced on Wednesday. Tarczewski injured his right thumb in Milan's last EuroLeague game, a 94-92 loss at Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, and will undergo surgery that requires him to miss up to a month-and-half of action.

Tarczewski, who will nonetheless play one more game before surgery, has been Milan's full-time starting center to date. He is averaging 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds through 15 games. Until now, he was also the only center besides Arturas Gudaitis on the roster. Omic (2.16 meters, 26 years old) comes from Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, Milan's opponent in Round 16 on Thursday. He put up 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds over the first half of the regular season. He had made his EuroLeague debut in 2012 with Union Olimpija Ljubljana in his native Slovenia. He also played for Anadolu Efes Istanbul in 2016-17 and Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade last season. Among his five 7DAYS EuroCup seasons for four teams, Omic was a member of the All-EuroCup First Team with Herbalife Gran Canaria in 2016 and won the 7DAYS EuroCup title with Unicaja Malaga in 2017.
