Efes Pilsen is once again the Turkish League champion! Efes won its 13th Turkish League title - its first since 2005 - by dethroning Fenerbahce Ulker in the best-of-seven finals, winning the series 4-2. Efes rounded a perfect domestic season - the team had won the Teknosa Turkish Cup trophy in late February - by edging FB Ulker 76-79 in Game 6 at Abdi Ipecki on Wednesday. Efes rallied from a 0-2 deficit in the series to win the title. Kaya Peker paced the winners with 23 points on 10-for-12 two-pointers and 9 rebounds. Bootsy Thornton added 10 points for Efes. Willie Solomon had 14 points for Efes while Emir Preldzic added 10 for the hosts, that led 25-21 after 10 minutes. An outstanding Peker - 17 points in the first half - and consecutive three-pointers by Erden Arslan allowed Efes to get its biggest lead, 37-48, late in the first half. Damir Mrsic and Solomon helped Fener to tie the game, 54-54, while an outstanding Preldzic completed the hosts' comeback, 69-67, with 4 minutes to go. Thornton and Peker stepped up while Smith followed a key triple with a critical dunk off a steal to seal the outcome, 76-79, in the final seconds.
Three-pointers by Solomon and Mirsad Turkcan got the crowd involved and gave Fener a 6-0 lead. Thornton and Kerem Tunceri stepped up to bring Efes as close as 9-7, but a 7-0 run that Gasper Vidmar capped with a two-handed dunk boosted the hosts' lead to 16-7. Thornton and Peker rescued Efes, leading a 0-6 run that got the guests within 21-19. Free throws by Omer Onan and a big basket by Solomon kept Fener ahead, 25-21, after 10 minutes. Peker scored twice around the basket while a free throw by Sinan Guler gave Efes its first lead, 26-27. An unstoppable Peker capped a 0-6 run with a dunk that made the hosts call timeout at 29-35. Arsan struck twice from downtown to make it an 11-point game, 37-48. Onan and Turkcan brought the hosts within 41-50 at halftime. Mrsic buried back-to-back triples immediately after the break while a dunk by Omer Asik made it a three-point game, 49-52. Solomon joined the three-point shootout to tie the game, 54-54. Arslan answered from downtown while Kasun dunked it to give Efes some fresh air, 54-59. Efes extended its lead to 59-65 after 30 minutes but Erden and consecutive triples by Preldzic gave FB Ulker a 69-67 lead, after an 8-0 run. Thornton and Peker stepped up for Efes while a three-pointer by Smith turned the game into a thriller, 72-74, with under 3 minutes remaining. Peker shined with a good-as-gold put-back layup but free throws by Solomon kept Fener within 74-77 with 51 seconds to go. Smith sealed the outcome with a fast break dunk off a steal, as Fener missed several shots from downtown in the final seconds.
