French League, Season 2009-10
|
|
| The always unpredictable and exciting French League returns with Asvel Basket as the team to beat. Asvel started a new era with the league title last season and has put together a very competitive team with new arrivals like Curtis Borchardt, Mindaugas Lukauskis and Bobby Dixon. Laurent Foirest, Ali Traore and Ben Dewar round out a deep, competitive roster. Nancy, Orleans, Le Mans and Chorale Roanne are aiming to dethrone Asvel. Nancy kept the Greer brothers and has a solid frontline led by Akin Akingbala and Marcus Slaughter. Le Mans is deeper than last season with marquee additions like Marc Salyers and Zack Wright to play alongside Dee Spencer and JP Batista. Orleans counts on Laurent Sciarra, Cedrick Banks and Austin Nichols to run a very interesting backcourt. Meanwhile, Roanne is set to compete for the title with Pape-Philippe Amagou, Dylan Page and Ralph Mims as its main players. Dijon may be the surprise team this season with Nick Fazekas, Sean Marshall and Damir Krupalija leading the team. Gravelines, with Cyril Akpomedah, Zaki Aboubacar and Tony Stanley, will fight for a playoff spot, just like Strasbourg, which counts on Alain Digbeu, Tremmell Darden and David Simon to lead the team next season. The regular season is played in a 30-round round-robin format. The top eight teams will make it to the playoffs. There best-of-three quarterfinals and semifinals set the stage for the title game at the Palais Onmisport Paris-Bercy, host of the 2010 Euroleague Final Four. |
