Lithuanian League, Season 2009-10
Another Lithuanian League season starts with two main candidates to fight for the title. It would be a major surprise if Zalgiris or Lietuvos Rytas did not make it to the finals at the end of the season. Zalgiris hopes to bounce back from a very rare title-free season with Marcus Brown back in the team. Zalgiris also landed Mirza Begic and Travis Watson in addition to hanging on to Mantas Kalnietis, Dainius Salenga and Tadas Klimavicius. Defending champion L. Rytas underwent severe roster changes, but just as usual, the club moved early in the off-season market to sign Bojan Popovic, Dejan Borovnjak and Aron Baynes. L. Rytas also kept Arturas Jomantas, Steponas Babrauskas, Donatas Zavackas and Milko Bjelica. As usual, Siauliai is the main outsider after finishing third overall for eight consecutive seasons. Siauliai starts the 2009-10 season with arguably its most competitive roster ever, featuring Matt Kingsley, Brandon Brown, Derrick Low, Arvydas Siksnius, Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Vytautas Sarakauskas as its main stars. Nevezis, Sakalai and Rudupis Prienu are likely to fight for the other semifinals spot, but when all is said and done, Zalgiris and L. Rytas should be the ones in the finals.
