Ukranian League, Season 2009-10
|
|
| A new era starts for the Ukrainian League after the top two leagues in the country merged to create a stronger competition with as many as 15 teams and an improved organization. Defending champion Azovmash Mariupol will be once again the team to beat with players like Erik Daniels, Juby Johnson, Simonas Serapinas and Hasan Rizvic. It will not be easy, however, as Budivelnyk Kyiv joined the league ready to provide an upset. Budivelnyk added superstar guard Khalid El-Amin as its floor general, but also features players like Gerrod Henderson, Richard Guinn and Grigori Khizhnyak. BC Kyiv, Donetsk and Khimik will also be fighting to reach high. Kyiv has its new reference in Derrick Zimmerman. Meanwhile, Donetsk hired Ramunas Butautas as coach and put together an interesting roster featuring Marque Perry, Ricardo Marsh, Artur Drozdov and Bruno Sundov. LaVell Blanchard and Darrel Mitchell should lead Khimik this season. Politekhnika-Halychyna Lviv, Ferro-ZNTU, Gryfony and MBC Mykolaiv will fight for a playoff spot in the round robin, 28-game regular season. With a new system and more teams, expect the 2009-10 Ukrainian League to be better than ever. |
