Club info
One of German basketball’s proudest clubs, Telekom Baskets Bonn, is back for a third consecutive Eurocup appearance. Last season, Bonn was one win away from reaching the Eurocup Last 32 and had a solid domestic campaign in which it reached the German Cup semifinals and ranked fourth at the end of the German League regular season, though it lost to ratiopharm Ulm in the playoff quarterfinals. Founded in 1992 as a fusion of Godesberger TV and Fortuna Bonn, the club switched its name to the current Telekom Baskets Bonn when German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom became its main sponsor in 1995. In the last 18 years, Bonn has made the German League playoffs 16 times and reached the finals five times. Despite the young age of the club, its European tradition is impressive. Bonn played in the Korac Cup twice in the early years and then reached the Saporta Cup quarterfinals three times between 1999 and 2002. On April 7, 2000, the fixture between Telekom Baskets Bonn and ALBA Berlin in Cologne Arena drew an amazing 18,518 spectators to set an attendance record in German basketball. While Bonn has had unquestionable success domestically, it failed to get into the ULEB Cup elimination rounds in any of its first three seasons in the competition – 2003, 2004 and 2005. Four years later, Bonn reached the FIBA EuroChallenge quarterfinals and the German League finals, but lost against EWE Baskets Oldenburg by a single point in the final seconds. The club made it to the 2012 German Cup title game, but that elusive first-ever title has not yet been realized. Now in its seventh Eurocup season, always with its trademark magenta jerseys and strong fan base, Bonn hopes to have a strong Eurocup comeback, but will need to win outside Telekom Dome - its Eurocup road record is 3-25 – to do so.
