Club info

Neptunas Klaipeda comes off a historic season in which the team made its Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut. Despite winning four of its five home games, Neptunas did not reach the Top 16 and did not adjust well to the Eurocup. A fourth-place finish in the Lithuanian League put a bitter end to an otherwise exciting season. Klaipeda is home to one of the oldest basketball clubs in the basketball-crazy country. Founded in 1962 as BC Maistas, it changed its name to Neptunas two years later. The team quickly found success in regional competitions, but it was not until Lithuania became an independent country that Neptunas played in the first division. It didn't take much time for Neptunas to shine among the Lithuanian elite; it reached the quarterfinals eight times from 1996 to 2003. Neptunas made its European competitions debut in the 1998-99 season and reached the Korac Cup elimination rounds. Neptunas finally broke through to the Lithuanian League semifinals in 2005, 2006 and 2009, and fans in Klaipeda have seen players like Eurelijus Zukauskas, Arvydas Macijauskas and Donatas Zavackas before they were well-known in continental basketball. Neptunas ranked third in Lithuania in the 2012-13 season and did even better a year later. Neptunas took part in the 2013-14 Eurocup and did not reach the Last 32, but the club bounced back in the Lithuanian League, where it advanced to the finals for the first time. Zalgiris Kaunas prevailed 4-2, but Neptunas proved it was on its way up as a club and went on to use nine Klaipeda-born players in its Euroleague debut season. Backed by one of the best fan bases in Europe, Neptunas hopes to do very well in the 2015-16 Eurocup.
