CAI Zaragoza returns to the Eurocup to continue its solid run in the competition. Last season, Zaragoza survived the regular season, but could not get past the Last 32. At home, Zaragoza made it to the Copa del Rey final eight, but missed out on the Spanish League playoffs due to a tie-break disadvantage. Basket Zaragoza was founded in 2002 to compete in the Spanish second division. It followed the success of Club Baloncesto Zaragoza, which reached the 1991 Saporta Cup final and won Copa del Rey titles in 1984 and 1990, but folded for financial reasons in 1996. Basket Zaragoza won the 2007-08 second division to reach the Spanish elite, but fell back to the Spanish second division a year later. However it rebounded quickly and earned promotion to the top flight again for good. Zaragoza had a quiet 2010-11 season in the Spanish League and finished 10th overall. With head coach Jose Luis Abos leading the team, everything clicked in the 2012-13 season as Zaragoza stormed into the Copa del Rey quarterfinals and the Spanish League semifinals to qualify for the 2013-14 Eurocup. Zaragoza made a nice Eurocup debut and just missed a chance to reach the elimination rounds in a last-second home loss to Besiktas Integral Forex Istanbul. The team regrouped to reach the Copa del Rey semifinals and return to the Spanish League playoffs. Coach Abos passed away before the start of a difficult 2014-15 season in which the team managed to overcome adversity to stay competitive. Zaragoza will aim to be a tough opponent again this season and use its recent experience to go as deep as possible in the 2015-16 Eurocup.
