Club info
GasTerra Flames gets back to the Eurocup for the second consecutive season ready to improve last season's results. GasTerra reached the last showdown of the seven-game Dutch League finals but lost in triple overtime against Zorg en Zekerheid. Founded as 1970 as GSVV Donar, the club reached three consecutive semifinals between 1978 and 1980 under the name of Nationale Nederlanden-Donar. The team clinched its first Dutch League title in 1982, beating Nashua Ben Bosch 3-1. However when Nationale Nederlanden ceased to be the main sponsor, the team disappeared after one more season, though not before beating mighty Maccabi Tel Aviv in Groningen in the preliminary round of the 1983 Euroleague. Donar came back for the 1986-87 season and managed to make it to the Dutch League semifinals that year. Five more semifinals appearances would follow between 1989 and 1997 and the team returned to the Dutch League finals in the 1997-98 season, losing 4-3 to Den Helder. MPC soon became its main sponsor and the club lifted the Dutch League trophy in 2004. That allowed MPC to make its ULEB Cup debut in 2004-05, when it finished fifth in its regular season group with a 3-7 record. The team also won the Dutch Cup title that year. The Capitals returned to the Dutch League finals in 2006, but EiffelTowers stood in its way to success. In 2007-08 the team returned to the ULEB Cup, registering quality wins against Spirou Basket and Hemofarm Stada. Then as the GasTerra Flames, the club won the Dutch League title in 2009-10 and played the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds last season, losing against Unics. GasTerra was the first Eurocup team to complete its 2011-12 roster and hopes to use its previous experience to reach higher in the competition and compete hard at home to add more hardware to its trophy case.
