Club info
After a strong season domestically and in the Eurocup, Strasbourg looks for even more in its Turkish Airlines Euroleague return. Strasbourg won its Eurocup Regular Season group with an 8-2 record behind head coach Vincent Collet and star guard Antoine Diot, but missed the elimination rounds on a tiebreaker. The club placed first at the end of the French League regular season and reached the finals before losing against Limoges CSP. It marked the third season in a row in which Strasbourg reached the French League finals. However, the Strasbourg trophy case did grow in size during the 2014-15 campaign; the club lifted the Leaders Cup trophy after beating Le Mans 60-58 in the final and also won the French Cup by defeating Le Portel in the title game in Paris. SIG Basketball Strasbourg was founded back in 1928, and mostly played in the French first, second and even third divisions for decades. After it reached the French elite in 1994, Strasbourg made it all the way to the French Cup final and sealed its ticket to the 1995 Saporta Cup, which was its first-ever appearance in European competition. After another brief fall to the second division, Strasbourg returned to the top level in 1999 and has been competitive ever since. Strasbourg advanced to the French Cup final in 1999, but needed to wait until 2005 for its first title when it became the French champion with a 72-68 win over SLUC Nancy at Paris-Bercy with more than 13,000 fans in attendance. That earned Strasbourg its Euroleague debut for the 2005-06 season. Despite its lack of experience, Strasbourg won three games and came close in many others. The following year the team reached the ULEB Cup quarterfinals, however, during the next six seasons qualified for only one more ULEB Cup, and had just one more domestic playoff appearance, while facing several relegation battles. But in the 2012-13 season, the club roared back to its winning ways; Strasbourg reached the finals of both the French League and French Cup. It took part in the 2013-14 Euroleague after a seven-year absence, but bowed out after finishing the regular season with a 2-8 record, and did not advance past the Eurocup Last 32. Strasbourg played well in domestic action and again made it to the French League finals only to get swept by Limoges in the best-of-five series. Last season, Strasbourg collected two trophies, was close to winning the French League and showed great competitiveness in the Eurocup. Now its goal will be to keep challenging for all trophies at home and trying to reach as far as possible in the 2015-16 Euroleague.
