Club info

Trabzonspor Medical Park is set to make its Eurocup debut after a fantastic 2014-15 season in which the club exceeded all expectations. With Coach Nenad Markovic guiding the way and Novica Velickovic, Dwight Hardy and Andrija Stipanovic starring on the court, Trabzonspor ranked sixth in the Turkish League regular season with a 16-14 record. It then upset Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul in the playoffs to go all the way to the semifinals, where Anadolu Efes Istanbul ultimately ended its storybook run. Trabzonspor also had a successful season in the FIBA EuroChallenge and hosted that competition’s final four; It beat Energia Targu-Jiu of Romania in the semifinals, but suffered a last-second loss in the title game against JSF Nanterre. After such a strong campaign, Trabzonspor is on the rise and wants to keep it going. Trabzonspor was founded in 2008 after acquiring Alpella's rights to start competing in the Turkish second division. Despite being first in its regular season group, Trabzonspor did not gain promotion in the 2009-10 season. Everything clicked a year later when Trabzonspor won both group stages to claim a spot in the Turkish elite. With Dragan Sakota as head coach and Aleksandar Rasic as its main player, Trabzonspor reached the Turkish Cup semifinals in 2011 before losing against Besiktas Cola Turka. Jonathan Gibson was the 2011-12 Turkish League top scorer, but couldn't prevent Trabzonspor from being relegated to the Turkish second division with a 6-24 record. Despite a seventh-place regular season finish, Trabzonspor downed every opponent in the second division playoffs to get back to the Turkish elite. Kirk Penney and Kaya Peker helped Trabzonspor to a solid comeback season, in which it ranked ninth in the Turkish League and laid the groundwork for a historic 2015 in which the team reached new heights. The beat goes on, as Trabzonspor hopes to make some serious noise in the 2015-16 Eurocup.
