Alba Fehervar, the first Hungarian club to participate in Eurocup in nine years, enters the competition after its best season in this millenium. Last season, Alba crushed its rivals Szolnoki Olaj 74-54 in the Cup finals, and beat the same opponent in the best-of-five League championship series. To win the title, Alba won Gams 1 and 3, before taking the deciding fifth game 75-66, led by the finals MVP Brandon Wood. It was the fourth League title, and the third Cup in club's history, and these two were the first trophies for this franchise in the last 13 years. The club was founded in 1951, but spent decades in search for playing a major role in the elite division of Hungarian basketball. Even though there were some proud moments during the first 40 years, Alba Fehervar's climb into prominence started when Albacomp took over the main sponsorhip in 1992. Teams soon started becoming stronger every year, reaching the third place in the League in 1996, and club started participating in the European club competitions, as well. The debut in Radivoje Korac Cup, in which Alba participated for five seasons, came one season prior to that. But the greatest period in club's history came at the turn of the century. In 1997-98 team won its first Hungarian national title. With head coach Farkas Sandor on the bench, with young Kornel David in the paint and 'lights-out' shooter Robert Shannon on the wings, Alba downed Honved 4-1 for a historic achievement. In the following two season, club continued its dominance by winning the Hungarian double – League and Cup – but then went on a trophy drought. Alba Fehervar did made its debut in Saporta Cup in 2000, and almost a decade later, in 2009, win the inagural season of the Central European Basketball League, but it waited until the last season to get more trophies at home. In the meantime, a difficult financial situation has brought many changes within the club, including an inauguration of former star Kornel as a team president, but last season proved it's on the right path, while an Eurocup debut is just another proud chapter in a long history of the club from Szekesfehervar.
