Limoges nets 13 triples to win in Belgrade

Limoges CSP still has a chance to improve its placing in Group C after winning a thriller at Partizan NIS Belgrade 98-101. Kenny Hayes hit 4 three-pointers in scoring 22 points and Josh Carter nailed 5 threes for 17 points as Limoges improved to 5-4 in the group. All told, Limoges, which got 21 points from Axel Bouteille and 10 from Tautydas Lydeka, made 13 three-pointers - one fewer than its club record. Partizan wasted a 12-point lead in dropping its final home game in the 7DAYS EuroCup and falling to 1-8 despite Nigel Williams-Goss setting career highs with 28 points, 11 assists and 3 steals for an index rating of 36. Patrick Miller also set a career high in scoring with 26 points as well as 5 rebounds. Both players hit 5 three-pointers as Partizan evened its EuroCup mark with 12 triples in the game. Doko Salic added career highs of 18 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

Bouteille started the scoring for the guests with Williams-Goss setting up three straight Salic baskets for a 6-2 lead. Two Mam Jaiteh scores knotted the game and it was still tied at 10-10 before Aleksandar Aranitovic and Mihaljo Andric hit three-pointers to help Partizan push ahead 18-12. Limoges answered with 7 straight points with Carter’s corner three making it 18-19. Partizan was back ahead 20-19 after 10 minutes. Hayes evened the game at 22-22 with a triple early in the second quarter and back-to-back baskets from Lydeka had the guests up 27-28. Partizan punched right back with a 12-2 run keyed by threes from Williams-Goss and Miller to make it 39-30. Partizan continued to use the long ball to extend the lead to 49-37 after triples from Miller and Nikola Tanaskovic. Dru Joyce hit a layup right before the halftime buzzer to bring Limoges within 51-42 at the break.

A Marko Pecarski three-pointer early in the second half pushed the lead to double-digits 54-44. Jaiteh’s three-point play trimmed the gap to 56-52 and then it was Williams-Goss versus Hayes as Partizan’s guard hit for 8 straight points and Hayes scored 9 points in helping Limoges trim it to 69-66. Danny Gibson took over from Hayes with a three and 2 foul shots to tie the game at 73-73. The game was even at 76-76 going into the fourth quarter. The lead swapped hands with the first three scores of the fourth with Carter and Hayes both hitting from long range as Limoges grabbed its biggest lead at 79-84. Partizan answered with the next 7 points to go up 86-84. Miller twice came up with crucial scores on a big dunk and three-point play and Williams-Goss’s three-pointer made it 96-93. But Hayes and Carter both hit three-pointers at the other end and Limoges led 96-99 with 33 seconds to play. Williams-Goss was fouled and made 2 free throws and Partizan had the ball to win after an offensive foul by Jaiteh. But Miller missed an open layup with 8 seconds left that would have given Partizan the lead.

Head Coaches

CANAK, NENAD
Partizan NIS Belgrade
"This was a tough game for us in term of the energy we invested. It turned out that we can say we invested it for nothing. However, this is a good training for much more important game against Mornar in the ABA league. We repeated some mistakes from the game against MZT; the first half was on a decent level, we were fulfilling our tasks in defense. In the second half we made many mistakes... Limoges scored important and tough shots in the second half; they didn’t miss any single free throw. At the end, it was a one-ball game. Miller usually scores from this situations, but now he did not. We have to keep moving forward and prepare for very important game against Mornar."
MILLING, KYLE
Limoges CSP
"It’s very hard to win here, especially if the other team has confidence and is playing well. I’m proud of the team because we were playing for nothing, but we kept fighting and played with a lot more confidence in the second half."

Players

TANASKOVIC, NIKOLA
Partizan NIS Belgrade
"We were really good in the first half, but in second we let the experienced team of Limoges get close and take the lead. Despite that we were close to grabbing the win, but they scored very tough shots in the last minute or two."
SALIC, DOKO
Partizan NIS Belgrade
"We came out to give our best despite all difficulties we are facing with injuries. I feel we were good in the first half but the shorter number of players in our rotation caused us to get tired in the second half. We kept fighting and we were close all the time, but they scored some shots at the end and grabbed the win. Easily we could win as well but now we must bounce back."
HAYES, KENNY
Limoges CSP
"We knew they would come out and play hard. Even though we are qualified for the next round we still had to come out here and compete because we knew they would play hard. It was a tough game and in the end we grinded it out."
