It is a clash of two ambitious sides when Promitheas Patras hosts Herbalife Gran Canaria for the first time. Promitheas is coming off perhaps the best season in club history, which came to a premature end due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it now looks to continue where it left off. Gran Canaria returns to the competition after two years away. A finalist in 2015, and at least a quarterfinalist in each of its three appearances since then, Gran Canaria wants a winning return.
Ian Miller is ready to make his EuroCup debut with Promitheas. The combo guard is a dangerous scorer and is eager to showcase his abilities at this level after finding success everywhere else around the European continent up to this point. Across from him will be a proven star, former All-EuroCup guard Amedeo Della Valle, a shooter and a backcourt leader who finds himself outside of his native Italy for the first time at the professional level.
Keys to victory: Promitheas Patras
No team had a better defense last season than Promitheas, which allowed just a tad above 70 points per game. Many pieces on the roster did change and this team might not have as much experience in the EuroCup, but Coach Makis Giatras and his philosophy will remain. The path to success last season was behind the defense and Promitheas will try to follow suit.
Keys to victory: Herbalife Gran Canaria
It is hard to find a team in the competition with as much firepower as Gran Canaria where just about any player on the roster is able to sink it from long range. Gran Canaria likes to play free-flowing basketball, pass the ball, find open players and run in transition if possible. And that's exactly what this team needs to do in this game: win it with its offense.
