Brose Baskets Bamberg took a 55-87 win against Virtus Siena that kept it in contention for the final of the Nike International Junior Tournament in Rome, upping its record to 2-1 and its basket difference to +39. Siena ends the group stage without a win, and will play Mas Mandoulides Thessaloniki in Saturday’s early game.
Brose Baskets broke away early on in the first quarter, denying its opponent a basket in the final four minutes of the period and going on a 14-point unanswered scoring run. Adding a further 8 points to that streak at the start of the second quarter, the German team went 13-37 ahead. The baskets continued to fall for Brose Baskets, who went into halftime holding a formidable 24-45 advantage. Another 10 points without a response in the third quarter made a comeback almost unreachable for Virtus Siena, and that proved to be the case as Brose Baskets made it 55-87 at the final buzzer. David Taylor contributed 23 points for Brose, Andrea Obst 20 and Maximilian Ugrai 16, while Siena was led by on Pierfrancesco Oliva with 14 points as the only player for the Italians to sink double-digits.
