There was no other team on court than Unics Kazan on the court on Wednesday, as the Russian team blasted MZT Skopje Aerodrom 85-61 at home. Unics managed to start the game with a 29-13 first-quarter score and never looked back. The winners stay undefeated midway through the regular season in Group G with a 5-0, while MZT Skopje drops to 1-4. Andrew Goudelock led the winners with his 20 points, Ian Vougioukas added 16 and Chuck Eidson contributed 11. Cade Davis led Skopje with 12 points and Alexandar Kostoski added 10.

The hosts started cruising in the first quarter as Andrew Goudelock emerged as the offensive pillar for Unics with 10 points in 8 minutes to make it 25-11. With no turnovers at all in the first minutes against the 4 of MZT Skopje, the guests were also struggling under the glass 11-2 after 9 minutes. With the help of Ian Vougioukas, Unics soared to 29-13 after 10 minutes. In the second quarter, MZT Skopje regrouped a little, but Unics was dominating the game at pleasure. Goudelock and Vougioukas were the referents in offense still for Unics while Uros Lucic did what he could to lead the Skopje charge, but to no avail as, at the break, the hosts dominated 48-25. Things changed in the third quarter as MZT Skopje, led by Cade Davis, managed to stay in the game for those 10 minutes. Forcing a few turnovers now on the hosts, the guests managed to trim things down to 66-48 but Kostas Kaimakoglu buried a three to put an end to the third period to leave things on the safe side for Unics, 69-48. The last quarter was a mere formality in which Unics managed the big lead and MZT Skopje did not have any options to win the game as time went by, despite starting the period with a 0-4.

"This game was very important for us from the overall results view point. We would like to finish the first leg having no defeats. We played well in the first quarter , and this was the key moment of the game. Our players followed my instructions and played well defensively and didn’t give the opponents a chance to catch us. I meant to give a rest to the key players, thus offering a good practice to the others, so almost all the team competed in the match. The most important thing for us now is not to win all the games we play, but to show good quality basketball , what we are actually aiming to."

"I congratulate Unics with the win. Unics is a high class team, and they have deserved the win. Unics has got an excellent coach and a Euroleague level roster. Opponents played better today both offensively and defensively. I was pretty much impressed by the Kazan basketball players performed individually on court. For us this game is a good lesson. We are for the first time in Eurocup, we have got a different budget and a different roster. Our difficult road to Kazan has evidently had some impact on the result as well. Si did the 3 hours difference between Europe and Moscow. This is why we didn’t show the best play we could have. I do believe we will play much better at home."
