Sluc Nancy moved closer to reach the elimination round in difficult Group D by thrashing Anwil Wloclawek 92-66 at home on Tuesday. Nancy improved to 3-2 and is third in Group D, right after undefeated leader Khimki and Pamesa Valencia, second at 4-1. Meanwhile, Anwil dropped to 1-4 and needs to start winning right away to keep its elimination rounds hopes alive. Michael Bauer paced the winners with 15 points, leading 6 Nancy players in double digits. Zaki Aboubacar added 14 points, Ricardo Greer had 13, Zab Dowdell 12 while Cyril Julian and Jeff Greer each got 11 for Nancy. Zeljko Zagorac had 14 points for Anwil, Gerrod Henderson added 13 and Andrzej Pluta 12. Anwil stayed in the game throughout the first quarter, but Bauer helped Nancy to get a 23-18 edge after 10 minutes. Aboucabar led a game-breaking 14-2 run that allowed Nancy to get a 43-29 margin at halftime. The Greer brother shined after the break, as Nancy boosted its margin to 67-41 and managed to keep a double-digit lead all the way until the final buzzer.

Julian got Nancy going with a three-point play but back-to-back baskets by Zagorac gave Anwil a 3-4 lead. Alex Dunn and Pluta allowed the guests to trade baskets for a while, but Julian and a triple by Bauer put Nancy back ahead, 12-8. Henderson and Patrick Okafor kept Anwil in the game, 18-17. Bauer followed a big basket with a three-pointer to give Nancy some fresh air, 23-18, after 10 minutes. Zagorac fired in a triple but Anwil went scoreless for the next 3 minutes. Meanwhile, Ricardo Greer and Aboubacar boosted Nancy's lead to 27-21. Anwil kept missing shots while Victor Samnick and an unstoppable Aboubacar boosted the hosts' lead to 37-23, after a 14-2 run. Henderson and Lukasz Koszarek tried to ignit an Anwil comeback, but free throws by DJ Harrison and ab Dowdell gave the hosts a 43-29 lead at halftime. Dunn and Pluta stepped up with consecutive baskets right after the break, but Nancy stayed focused. Three-pointers by Pape Amagou and Jeff Greer highlighted a 13-2 run that broke the game open, 56-35, midway through the third quarter. Henderson and Koszarek tried to change things for Anwil but Nancy was on fire. Aboubacar scored twice in the paint while Ricardo Greer hit a triple and added a layup off a steal to make it a 26-point game, 67-41. Dunn and Henderson got the Capitals within 67-46 after 30 minutes. Pluta had 5 points in a 0-7 run that gave Anwil some hope at 67-53. It didn't last long, however, as Bauer and Dowdell restored a 21-point Nancy lead, 79-58, with 4 minutes to go. Everything was said and done up to that point, as Nancy kept full control of the game and cruised to an important win.

Head Coaches

MONSCHAU, JEAN-LUC
SLUC Nancy
"Tonight the score is very important because Anwil and we could finish close at the end of the regular season. So we had to take the biggest advantage. We controlled the game with our defense and except during at the end of the third quarter, we defended very tough so we had a lot of easy baskets. It's too early to think we have advanced but we are in a good situation for the second half of the regular season."
PIPAN, ALES
Anwil Wloclawek
"First of all, I want to congratulate Jean-Luc Monschau and his team. They were better tonight. They played very well and we couldn't find the right rhythm during the game. Now, we have to focus on the next game because it will be very important."

Players

BAUER, MICHAEL
SLUC Nancy
"We played good defense, that's why we took a big advantage. The team is really focused on the collective result. I'm feeling better than last season. The team, my teammates and the coach are really good. I hope we can continue our good start of season during the second half of the ULEB Cup regular season."
HENDERSON, GERROD
Anwil Wloclawek
"I think we were mentally prepared for the game and we started well. But during the second quarter, they played very well, we couldn't follow them. About the second half of the ULEB Cup regular season, we have to keep on working."
