Dolomiti Energia Trento edged JSF Nanterre in OT to advance

Dolomiti Energia Trento edged JSF Nanterre in overtime 79-85 to advance to the Last 32. Trento improved to 6-2 in Group A to retain at least a share of first place. The loss dropped Nanterre to 3-5. Julian Wright starred with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals for the winners, while Trent Lockett, Fillipo Baldi Rossi and Davide Pascolo added 11 points apiece. Mykal Riley paced Nanterre with 24 points and 5 assists, Mam Jaiteh totaled 14 points and 8 rebounds and Brian Greene scored 10.

Riley started strong with the game’s first 4 points. Andres Forray hit a three as Trento reeled off 7 straight points to take the lead. Terrance Campbell’s triple tied at 9-9 and Riley connected from downtown to put Nanterre ahead 14-13. The teams traded baskets for several minutes until a pair of Riley threes gave him 15 points and Nanterre a 24-19 lead after 10 minutes. Riley’s fourth three made it 29-21 early in the second. However the hosts’ attack went silent for more than four minutes as Jamarr Sanders started a 0-12 run with a three and Forray ended it with a pair of threes to take a 31-35 lead. Jeremy Nzeulie ended the Nanterre rut before Wright’s put-back made it 33-37 at the break.

Dominique Sutton pushed the Trento lead to 36-44 early in the third quarter. Campbell and Greene each hit threes in a 10-0 Nanterre run as the hosts took the lead. After Sutton tied it from the line, Hugo Invernizzi hit a three to make it 53-48. Sutton drew Trento within 1, but Campbell free throws ended the third quarter at 55-52. Lockett’s second basket of the fourth quarter tied the game at 60-60 with just over six minutes remaining. After Jaiteh put the hosts back in front, Wright’s triple made it 62-63. The lead switched hands with each of the next seven scores; Jaiteh’s three-point play and Nzeulie’s free throws made it 74-70 with 1:13 remaining. However Nanterre missed its final 3 shots and baskets by Wright and Filippo Baldi Rossi sent the game to overtime at 74-74.

Riley scored to open the extra session before Wright buried a three-pointer. After free throws by Baldi Rossi and Jaiteh, it was 77-79. A Baldi Rossi steal and Pascolo layup put Trento up 4. Riley made it 79-85, but Wright’s dunk with 11 seconds left made it a two-possession game and a Campbell turnover allowed the visitors to celebrate.

Head Coaches

DONNADIEU, PASCAL
JSF Nanterre
"We were very tired as team because we had a short rotation. The win was decided on a rebound. We gave ourselves means to win, but we did not succeed. We deserved to win because of our combativeness, but of course Trento also deserves that win."
BUSCAGLIA, MAURIZIO
Dolomiti Energia Trento
"This was an important game for two reasons. The first one was to reach to the second round for the first time in the Eurocup, so it is very important in our history. And the second reason was to achieve it with a young team who played with pressure because we knew that this win was the most important."
