In the game for the seventh place at the Torneo Citta di Roma, Virtus Siena defeated Virtus Roma 67-47 on Sunday. Pierfrancesco Oliva amassed 26 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals to pace Siena, which finishes the tournament with 2-2 record. Fabio Cuccarese scored the first 7 points, and Luca Severini made three consecutive baskets to give Siena an early double-digit cushion, before Oliva nailed a triple for 19-6. More baskets from Oliva gave Siena 24-11 after 10 minutes, before Roma found its offense early in the second quarter. Eduardo Dell’oca and Valerio Ficini hit three-pointers cutting it to 26-19, however, Severini scored twice from close range, and Oliva finished the half with a steal and a fastbreak layup for 37-23. Roma opened the third quarter with a 0-7 run led by Gabriele Romeo and a put-back from Giovanni De Nicolao. But Oliva strung together 10 points, including a triple, a basket-plus-free throw, and a pair of fastbreak layups. After 5 points from Tommaso Gauriglia, Oliva added a dunk, lifting Siena to 54-38. Baskets came few and far between in the fourth quarter, before Severini and Oliva sparked a 9-0 run, capped by Enrico Vadi connecting twice for 65-41, and Siena closed out the game. Severini finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds in victory, while Federico Pagano and Davide Alviti had 10 apiece for winless Virtus Rome.
