Brno downs Tofas for seventh place

U18 Basket Brno collected its first victory in Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament history as it knocked off U18 Tofas Bursa 71-66 in overtime to finish seventh at the ANGT Istanbul. Ondrej Hustak led the way with 20 points and 14 rebounds for Brno, which was making its ANGT debut this season. Two other players had double-doubles with Jakub Necas picking up 14 points and 10 rebounds and Lukas Olbort adding 11 points and 12 rebounds while Petr Krivanek scored 10 points. Tofas, which is now winless in two ANGT appearances, lost despite Berek Buyuktuncel, Can Cevikel and Ege Peksari all scoring 11 points.

Hustak scored 8 points as Brno opened the game with the first 12 points. Tofas needed nearly 6 minutes to score and then reeled off 13 straight points including a Buyuktuncel three-point play and a pair of Cevikel triples to lead 12-13. The game was 14-13 after 10 minutes. Buyuktuncel and Cevikel both knocked down three-pointers as Tofas started the second quarter with a 0-14 run to pull ahead 14-27. Brno finally got on the board after more than 4 minutes and countered with an 11-0 surge to pull within 25-27. The score was 28-33 at the break.

The game was close through most of the third quarter and Brno scored 7 straight points to move ahead 42-39. But Tofas kept Brno scoreless for the final 5 minutes of the quarter and used a 0-11 run to lead 42-50 after 30 minutes. Tofas was up 50-56 with 6 minutes left before Brno scored 9 straight points to move ahead 59-56 with 28 seconds left. Jan Polivka missed 2 free throws with 14 seconds left and Egemen Usta sent the game to overtime with a three-pointer off the glass with 2.5 seconds to play. In the extra session, Kivanc Col got Tofas within 65-63 with 1:17 minutes left. Necas came back with a three-point play with 30 seconds left and Olbort hit 2 foul shots with 19 seconds remaining to secure the win.
