Fenerbahce grabs seventh place with win over Zaragoza

U18 Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul finished the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Kaunas in seventh place with an 87-93 victory over debutant U18 Casademont Zaragoza. David Mutaf scored 30 points with 6 three-pointers while Yigit Onan poured in 23 points, Ege Ulker had 14 points and Berkay Yilmaz added 10 points, including a three-pointer and 2 free throws in the final 36 seconds to help seal the victory. Zaragoza, which failed to win in its first ANGT appearance, was led by Gustav Knudsen's 25 points. Alvaro Martinez tallied 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and Daniel Arjol chipped in 20 points.

Zaragoza scored the first 5 points of the game and a second three-pointer by Arjol helped the team stay ahead 14-11. Mutaf answered with 4 points as Fenerbahce scored the next 7 points to take a 14-18 lead. Onan drained a triple and Fenerbahce led 22-25 after 10 minutes. Knudsen poured in 6 points as Zaragoza opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to go up 31-27. Mutaf dropped three triples the rest of the quarter and the Turkish took a 41-44 edge at the break. Fenerbahce started the second half with a 2-11 surge to grab a 43-55 advantage. Martinez responded with 9 points in an 11-4 Zaragoza answer to get within 54-59. But the Spanish side trailed 60-65 after 30 minutes. It was 64-67 when Mutaf hit a pair of three-pointers and Yilmaz added a triple for a 64-76 lead. The cushion stood at 76-88 with 2 minutes left, but Zaragoza charged back into the game with an 8-0 run to make it 84-88. Yilmaz delivered in the crunch with a three with 36 seconds to play and then added 2 free throws with 15 seconds remaining for an 86-93 lead.
