Jonathan Tabu - CAI Zaragoza - EC13 (photo Belfius Mons Hainaut)CAI Zaragoza got back to its winning ways, running over Belfius Mons Hainaut 65-104 on Tuesday. Win improved Zaragoza to 3-3, getting it back into Last 32 race, while Belfius Mons remained winless and all but mathematically eliminated. Zaragoza controlled things the entire game, and pulled away with a 2-15 run late in the second quarter for 33-48 halftime lead. Margin kept growing in the second half, and reached 51 points late in the game. Michael Roll and Jonathan Tabu scored 14 points apiece for Zaragoza, Albert Fontet had 12 points in 10 minutes, while Pere Tomas and Jon Stefansson each had 11 points. Talor Battle scored 16 points in defeat, while Robert Vaden had 12, and Demontez Stitt had 10 for the hosts who did not attempt a single free throw in the game.

Tabu and Tomas hit triples for an early 2-9 lead, before Battle strung together 7 points to get the hosts within 13-16. A three-pointer from Vaden at the end of the first quarter made it 18-20, and Lorenzo Giancaterino kept the hosts in touch. However, the visitors put together a 2-15 run, as Tabu nailed three-pointers on both ends of the run, and with help from Giorgi Shermadini and Tomas, Zaragoza pulled away to 26-41. Before the end of the quarter, Tabu hit another one from downtown, but Monwell Randle answered with a three-pointer, and a layup from Stitt made it 33-48 at halftime. Margin kept growing in the fourth quarter, with six different scorers in as many minutes, capped with a three-pointer from Viktor Sanikidze for 38-62. Vaden answered with back-to-back threes for the hosts, but Fontet made sure margin stays unchanged, 48-72 after three quarters. In the fourth, with game out of hand, Vaden nailed his third three-pointer and 55-75, but Zaragoza soon went on a 2-18 run. Pedro Llompart sparked it with a triple, Javier Martin and Jon Stefansson hit shots from downtown, too, before Fontet made it 63-104, biggest margin of the night.

Head Coaches

DEFRAIGNE, YVES
Belfius Mons Hainaut
"We have still made too many errors to be able to compete with a team which plays all the same the top six of Liga ACB; which is totally different from the Belgian championship... Besides, at the moment, nothing turns at our home for numerous weeks, and even by trying to alternate the penetrations and the outer shootings, there was nothing to make against players as Stefansson who played in NBA or Tomas. Saragossa had numerous polyvlents players, and now we must concentrate on the competition."
ABOS, JOSE LUIS
CAI Zaragoza
"It was a very important game for us because we knew we needed a win to maintain our aspirations of qualifying for the next stage of the Eurocup. The team has come out very focused, very intense on defense, knowing what we had to do on offense and playing with a lot of balance. We played with a lot of discipline, we had the possibility of outside shooting with confidence. That has been the key to control the game, and gradually pulled away during the game."

GIANCATERINO, LORENZO

"It is a very severe defeat in figures, but it is necessary to recognize that were not capable of staying in the rhythm printed during the first quarter time. Having said that, Saragossa was very sturdy, and maintaining that we are mathematically eliminated, we have to concentrate on the championship, with a match very important Friday."
TABU, JONATHAN
CAI Zaragoza
"To reach the second stage of this competition, it was imperative to win outside our installations, and after a first quarter rather difficult time, we succeeded in finding the good options; both in the internal game and except the racket, and in the rest, the most difficult was made at the half time! As for me, it was a little bit special match, because it was the first time when I returned in my club of origin, and I played in front of my family and my friends, but finally, everything passed well."
