U18 Darussafaka Istanbul claimed fifth place at the Euroleague Basketball ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Munich by racing past U18 Brose Bamberg 70-101. Mert Akay collected a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for Darussafaka, which finished with a 2-2 record in the tournament. Efe Arikan and Engin Kalkan both added 14 points for the winners. Brose could not find the energy after beating U18 FC Bayern Munich in its final Group A game and was out-rebounded 26-46. Henri Drell scored 36 points to lead Brose to go with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 blocks and 9 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 42.

With the score 5-6 in the opening moments, Akay and Can Turgut combined for 10 points in building an 8-16 lead. Arikan nailed a pair of three-pointers and scored 8 points in an 0-13 Darussafaka run over three minutes for an 11-32 advantage, which was 16-37 after 10 minutes. The gap was 22-38 when Denizhan Ene knocked down 2 three-pointers in a 5-12 surge for a 27-50 lead. A Turgut three was followed by an Arikan three-point play and the cushion was up to 34-60. The Turkish side led 36-63 at the break.

Brose still lacked the intensity on defense and Darussafaka kept rolling with Akay scoring 5 points in a 2-15 surge early in the second half for a 40-78 lead. Darussafaka pushed the margin out to 41 points - 44-85 - late in the third quarter, which ended at 50-85. The gap was 35 when Drell scored 4 points in cutting the deficit to 62-89 with four minutes to play. But Brose did not get closer than 26 points the rest of the way.
