ASVEL holds off Olympiacos for fifth place

U18 LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne collected fifth place at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Valencia by knocking off U18 Olympiacos Piraeus 76-87. Daryl Doualla paced ASVEL with 21 points while Matthew Strazel had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, Kymany Houinsou picked up 15 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and Rollings Kamanda chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. Iosif Koloveros finished with 34 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for Olympiacos while Alexandros Nikolaidis added 20 points and 8 rebounds and Panagiotis Tsamis tallied 4 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Doualla scored five points as ASVEL jumped ahead 0-9 and he nailed a second three-pointer in helping the French side open a 2-16 gap after 7 minutes. Strazel and Elijah Hoard both knocked down triples as well for a 7-22 ASVEL lead, which was 9-22 after 10 minutes. Nikolaos Tsolakis picked up nine points in helping Olympiacos stay close at 23-31, but Doualla and Kamanda both converted three-point plays in an 0-12 run for a 23-43 lead. Olympiacos pulled to within 32-46 at the break. Strazel drained two three-pointers and Houinsou was also on target from the outside as ASVEL pushed the margin to 22 points - 35-57. Olympiacos charged back into the game with a 17-2 run as Koloveros scored 11 points to get as close as 52-59 and the score was 54-61 after 30 minutes. Sotiros Oikonomopoulos scored seven points to make it 61-65. ASVEL delivered the knockout punch with a 5-14 run for a 66-79 lead as Doualla and Strazel combined for 12 points.
