Virtus Siena won the third spot in the Citta di Roma Tournament thanks to an 83-78 victory over the hosting team Stella Azzurra on Thursday evening in Rome, Italy. A close game for 40 minutes saw Siena step up inside the last 30 seconds to decide the encounter. The winners finish the games with a 3-1 record while Stella Azzurra lost its last two games and fell to 2-2. Amedeo Tessitori had a monster double-double of 29 points and 20 rebounds to reach an index rating of 47. He was joined by Marco Cucco who scored 16 and Riccardo Rovere who scored 13. Yancarlos Rodriguez had 22 points for Stella, Nicolo Basile collected 19 and Mirco Turel scored 13 for the losing side. Stella scored the first five points of the game but saw Siena grab a 27-19 lead towards the end of the first quarter. Basile and Rodriguez kept Stella in the game enough to finish the half at 42-40 for Siena. The second half saw the lead switch hands again and again with Tessitori on one side and Rodriguez at the other. The last attacked the rim to set a 78-78 tie inside the last minute but saw a great post-up play by Tessitori on the other side to separate the teams again 80-78. Rodriguez tried to tie the score once again but missed an open lay-up and saw Cucco decide the game from the free throw line.
