Armani Junior Milan led from start to finish in a third place game at the Torneo Citta di Roma, comfortably topping FC Bayern Munich 42-66 and winning the bronze medal on Sunday. Milan finishes the tournament with two consecutive wins, and a 3-1 record, while Bayern dropped its last two games for 2-2 overall record. Andrea Picarelli paced the winners with 15 points, and Alberto Cacace scored 14. Giosue Hamadi chipped in with 9 for Milan, while Marcel Kessen collected 10 points plus 9 rebounds in defeat. After Armani Junior Milan opened the game with back-to-back triples from Carlo Fumagalli and Picarelli, another triple from Picarelli and a layup from Fumagalli made it 4-15. Davide Vercesi added back-to-back threes of his own, and Hamadi hit a jumper for 5-23 after 7 minutes. Bayern struggled against Milan’s defense, with only Karim Jallow making two shots in the first and Marcel Kessen one jumper early in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Andrea Pecchia score twice for two points, and Picarelli hit one from long range and 10-32. Sebastian Schmitt ended Bayern’s drought from the field with a fastbreak bucket, but baskets came few and far between late in the first half, as Milan held 16-37 at halftime. Trends did not change after the break, either. Kessen made a put-back and a layup, but Adem Catkovic and Cacace hit three-pointers for Milan and 22-44. Before the end of the quarter, Cacace scored 6 more points and Armani Junior Milan had 25-51 after 30 minutes. At the start of the fourth quarter, Richard Freudenberg made the first three-pointer for Bayern, and later added another one. However, Hamadi hit from downtown on the other end, and Picarelli buried a triple for the biggest margin of the night, 34-62, as Milan was closing out the game.
