Belfius Mons-Hainaut finished the game with a 2-9 run, stunning the hosts Virtus Rome 60-61, and picking up its first win of 2013-14 Eurocup campaign on Wednesday. Mons now stands at 1-6, still at the bottom of Group D, while Rome drops to 2-5 in the fifth place, with slim chances of advancing to the next stage. The hosts built a 10-point advantage in the second quarter, and kept the lead late into the fourth quarter. But a basket-plus-foul from Robert Vaden gave Mons 58-59 with 75 seconds left, and the visitors preserved the lead in the remaining time. Talor Battle had 13 points in victory, Vaden and Jason Love scored 12 apiece, while Monwell Randle amassed 11 points plus 16 rebounds. Bobby Jones and Jimmy Baron scored 10 apiece for the hosts, and Jordan Taylor chipped in with 9 in a loss.

The two teams traded leads in the early going. Alex Righetti hit a triple for the hosts, but Randle scored twice from downtown and added a layup for 8-12. Jones and Baron answered with more triples, sparking a 10-0 run that gave Rome 18-12 after 10 minutes. A basket-plus-foul from Baron made it 24-14 early in the second, but Demontez Stitt and Love cut it to 26-21. Taylor hit a three-pointer for the hosts, and Quinton Hosley added a layup-plus-foul for 33-23. Before quarter’s end, Philipp Goss nailed a triple for Rome, but Battle scored twice from downtown helping the visitors cut it to 38-32 at halftime. It rained three-pointers at the start of the third quarter, as Goss, Jones and Righetti hit from long range for the hosts, while Battle and Vaden countered for Belfius Mons. Rome kept its margin intact, and Taylor’s layup gave it 51-46 after 30 minutes. In the fourth, Jones was fouled behind the arc and sunk all three free throws, but Stitt and Vaden cut it to 54-52. Riccardo Moraschini answered with a jumper, and Jones opened 58-52 lead, only for the visitors to go on a game-winning run. Love and Buy Muya made layups, before Vaden had a basket-plus-foul for 58-59. In the final minute Muya and Battle each split free throws, but it was enough to maintain the lead and get the first win of the season.
