Colom’s triple double leads Unics Kazan into Last 32

Quino Colom recorded Unics Kazan’s first triple double and just the seventh in competition history in leading his team to a 91-77 victory over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica and into the Last 32. Unics improved to 6-3 in Group D and will go into its Eurocup Regular Season finale with a chance to finish atop the group standings. Colom recorded 15 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 6 steals in a tremendous performance; he had the triple double just one minute into the fourth quarter! Keith Langford led all scorers with 26 points, while Latavious Williams added 17 points and 7 rebounds and Arturas Milaknis netted 11 points. Unics outrebounded Buducnost 40-26 – including 15 offensive rebounds to Buducnost’s 20 defensive boards. After Buducnost scored the first 11 points of the game, Unics roared back with a 13-2 second-quarter run in which Colom dished 3 assists and never trailed again. Tadija Dragicevic paced Buducnost with 19 points and Sead Sehovic scored 13.

Buducnost stunned the hosts early as Aleks Maric scored 6 points, Sead Sehovic dished a pair of assists and Suad Sehovic drilled a triple to cap a 0-11 opening run. More than four minutes passed before Langford got Unica on the scoreboard with a three-point play and Milaknis added a triple. Langford all but erased Buducnost’s great start with free throws that gave him 9 points and drew the hosts within 12-16, however Suad Sehovic responded with a four-point play. Maric split free throws and rejected Williams to give Buducnost a 17-23 edge after 10 minutes. Colom and Bojan Subotic traded triples to start the second quarter. Unics made its move a few minutes into the quarter when five players scored, Colom dished 3 assists and Langford totaled 4 points in a 13-2 charge that made it 37-30. Vadim Panin’s three-point play gave the hosts their first lead. Dragicevic kept Buducnost in the picture, but Williams put Unics up 46-38 at the break.

Langford and Williams scored to give Unics a double-digit lead early in the second half. A Nemanja Jaramaz three got the visitors as close as 54-47, but Milaknis connected from downtown to restore a comfortable margin. Colom dished his 10th assist for the last basket of the quarter to Williams for a 65-53 Unics advantage. Colom grabbed his 10th rebound a minute into the fourth quarter to establish a triple double. Buducnost continued to first and Jaramaz made it 72-61, but Lanford’s three-point play and Art Parakhouski’s put-back made it a 16-point game midway through the fourth quarter. The lead peaked at 89-71 as Unics cruised to victory and into the Last 32.

Head Coaches

PASHUTIN, EVGENY
Unics Kazan
"I congratulate my players and our fans on the win. It was very important for us to win today, because three teams in our group had 5-3 records before the game and were chasing first place in the group. The start of the game was a little nervous for us, but we recovered. Our players showed strong character and started to play well defensively. This was the key for our success. One played for all and all for one. We are pleased with the win, but there is still a lot to be done and to improve on, especially we must be more aggressive starting the games."
PAVICEVIC, LUKA
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica
"I congratulate Unics and their coach Evgeny for the win, they deserved it. It was too difficult a task for us to win today on the road. At certain moments of the game we went even up, but were not consistent and this is one of the reasons why we lost the game. We lost to Trabzonspor at home, and it was too difficult for us to hope for the win in Kazan."
