Khimki Moscow Region never trailed and tharshed Lukoil Academic Sofia 83-55, picking up its sixth consecutive win on Tuesday. Khimki improves to 6-1 atop of Group E, and will claim a place in the Last 32 if Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem defeats Igokea Aleksandrovac in the Israeli capital on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lukoil drops to 2-5. The hosts led from start to finish, and pulled away for good in the first period, using a 16-0 spurt that gave them 29-11 lead after 2 minutes in the second quarter. Lukoil never came closer than 11 points, as Khimki cruised to victory. Paul Davis collected 20 points plus 7 rebounds in less than 22 minutes, while Petteri Koponen added 16 points plus 8 assists. James Augustine had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks, while Mickael Gelabale also netted 10 in victory. Alando Tucker had 19 points for the visitors, while Davin White added 9 in losing effort.

Kreso Loncar opened the game with a put-back and couple of jumpers, and after only 4 possessions a triple from Gelabale put Khimki up 9-0. Lukoil responded with Tucker scoring 6 points, and a triple from White helped cut it to 13-11, however the hosts replied with a run of 16 consecutinve points to pull away. Davis and Gelabale made dunks, before Koponen and Benjamin-Pavel Dudu each sunk three-pointers for 25-11 after 10 minutes. At the start of the second quarter, baskets from Marko Popovic and Davis made it 29-11. Margin was extended to 34-14 with a triple from Egor Vyaltsev and a jumper from Davis, and even though Bozhidar Avramov sunk a three-pointer for the visitors, Augustine made sure Khimki holds 40-21 halftime lead. Lukoil had a better start to the second half. Tucker scored 6 points and Jure Lalic made basket-plus-foul, as the visitors came within 43-32. But a fastbreak layup from Mike Green, and a pair of jumpers from Davis extended it to 50-34. Before third quarter ended, Kieron Achara and Avramov each scored from downtown, but Gelabale nailed on triple of his own for 57-43 after three quarters. At the start of the fourth, Davis had a basket-plus-foul and a layup for 63-43, putting the game out of reach. Couple of triples from Koponen helped extend the margin to 73-45, and lead reached 31 points as the hosts were closing out the game.

"We prepared seriously for this game as we knew that after changing its head coach, Lukoil Academic scored two important Eurocup victories in a row being aggressive. We were aware, but I’m very happy for our guys, as from day to day we play better as a team, despite some small breakdowns during the game. We managed to reduce the number of turnovers, and made 28 assists which is a great stat."

"Khimki gave us a good lesson today, especially in the first half. Now I can say that, compared to the start of the season, it is another team that improved. It has experienced players and when you play here, in Khimki, it’s a big challenge for everybody. We were not good in the first half, but we had our goals, especially on offense, as we played aggressively against Khimki players. After the big break, we played simply and won the third quarter. At the end, we became tired and put some new players on the court."

"We played very good defense in the beginning of the game and allowed our opponent to score only 21 points in the first half. We also had good plays on offense, but I suppose today it was a matter of defense that helped us do a good job. We are a better team, we showed that today, but you have to play with heart and be focused to use your advantage."

"It was a very hard road game as we knew Khimki is like a Euroleague team. It’s hard to make mistakes against a team like this, as you will be punished. Our main goal is to advance to the next Eurocup round. We are working on this right now. There are some more games to be played, and we still have chances."
