Buducnost goes out on the winning note
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica routed depleted Steaua Eximbank Bucharest 89-56 in the last Eurocup game for both teams this season. Buducnost finished the season with 4-6 record in the fifth place in Group D, while Steaua ended its debut campaign with 2-8 record in the sixth place. Buducnost used a 22-5 spurt in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead, before pulling away some more in the second quarter. The hosts held 45-26 at halftime, and margin soon eclipsed 30 points in the third quarter as Sead Sehovic paced the winners with 17 points. Nemanja Jaramaz and Bojan Subotic each had 13 points. Suad Sehovic added 10 points, while Aleks Maric grabbed 10 rebounds in victory. Chris Cooper amassed 19 points and 11 rebounds for Steaua. Titus Nicoara collected 11 points plus 13 rebounds, while Marko Marinovic had 11 points and 8 assists in the losing effort.
Marinovic opened the game with a triple for the visitors, but it was Buducnost took control right after. Subotic and Omar Cook nailed three-pointers, before Suad Sehovic scored on a fast break and Sead Sehovic also hit from downtown to make it 15-5. More baskets, from Sead Sehovic and Vasilije Bacovic helped open 22-8 after 10 minutes. Cooper and Nicoara made a good start of second quarter for the visitors, and Mihail Paul made it 25-16. But Buducnost replied with an 8-0 run, started by Sead Sehovic and capped by Robert Rikic. Nicoara nailed a three-pointer for Steaua, however, the hosts did not allow another basket for more than 3 minutes late in the second half while Sead Sehovic buried a three and Jaramaz scored for two-points, extending the margin to 42-21. Marinovic ended Steaua’s drought, but Suad Sehovic knocked down a three for Buducnost, too, as the hosts held a commanding 45-26 halftime lead.
A three-pointer from Cook and a three-point play from Sead Sehovic opened 53-28 at the start of the third quarter. Cooper strung together 6 points for the visitors, but Subotic had a pair of baskets for Buducnost to spark a 9-0 run, capped by a fastbreak basket from Bacovic, 67-34. Steaua was without a field goal for more than 6 minutes, before Cooper ended the wait. Buducnost held 70-39 after three quarters, and Jaramaz extended it to 74-41 in the fourth. Marinovic and Adrian Rosu hit triples in a 0-10 run for Steaua, before Rikic and Sead Sehovic snapped it as Buducnost cruised to close out the game.
