Stelmet Zielona Gora bested Ventpsils 51-58 on the road to avoid finishing last in Group F. Zielona Gora finished fifth with a 3-7 record, while Ventspils remained at the bottom of the table with a 2-8 record. Quinton Hosley led the winners with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Daniel Johnson added 11 points. Ventspils got 16 points from Akselis Vairogs and 13 from Mire Chatman.

After the game was tied at 6-6 and 10-10, a three-point play by Akselis Vairogs and a free throw bagged by Hosley gave a 13-11 margin to the home team after 10 minutes. Troy Barnies form the foul line gave an 18-13 cushion to Ventpsils, before Johnson scored 4 of 6 consecutive points for the guests to go in front 18-19 on a jumper by Przemyslaw Zamojski. Vairogs put the hosts again ahead, but Aaron Cel and Adam Hrycaniuk in the paint scored to make it 23-27 at halftime.

Hosley’s jumpers gave a 27-33 advantage to Zielona Gora early in the second half, but 6 unanswered points for the hosts put them in front on 36-35 after Vairogs’s three. Hosley dunked and gave a 36-39 margin to the visitors, but Vairogs with a deep triple beat the third-quarter buzzer and tied the game at 39-39. Zielona Gora started the last quarter with an 8-0 run capped by Lukasz Koszarek to get a 39-47 cushion. Hrycaniuk raised it to 42-51, but Maris Gulbis posted a three-point-play to get within 5. A triple by Zamojski gave a 47-56 advantage to the visitors with two and a half minutes left and their defense sealed the win.

Head Coaches

STELMAHERS, ROBERTS
Ventspils
"This game didn’t carry any significant meaning for us. We should have won. The beginning was more hopeful; our victories gave us hope. Unfortunately the rebounds and fouls had taken their toll on us. And maybe the pressure on the team had been too big. Our defense was at a low level, the offense was a bit better, but in the end the result is what it is. There are three weeks of time off ahead, so we will try and schedule some training games and will have a lot of practice to look forward to."
FILIPOVSKI, SASO
Stelmet Zielona Gora
"We came to Ventspils to win a game and we did it. We played good offense and it tipped the score in our favour. The home team also showed a high level of competitiveness and there were some turnovers and rebounds we could have avoided. But of course the end result made us very happy. On a personal note, I would like to congratulate my good friend Roberts Stelmahers on doing a good job training the team, and to wish Mire Chatman all the best in his further endeavors."

Players

CHATMAN, MIRE
Ventspils
"We hoped the game would be in our favor. Unfortunately it didn’t turn out as we wanted. We may have been slow in finding our rhythm, but we did the best we could. As this was my last game I wanted to help the team as much as I could and prove to be efficient. Before the game I thought about the past seasons and tried to recall the best moments of my career. My plans for the near future include spending as much time as possible with my family, and maybe getting back to teaching the kids in the summer school."
TROUTMAN, CHEVON
Stelmet Zielona Gora
"When we first came to Ventspils, we thought it would be a low-scoring game, but the home team put up a fight, and in the end we had to play with all our energy and give our maximum effort to win. It wasn’t easy, but we managed to achieve the desired result. "
