Wright leads Brose past Zvezda
Brose Bamberg tied a club-record 14 three-pointers and registered its largest win in the past two seasons, topping the visiting Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade 86-62 on Friday. Brose swept Zvezda with this win, so even though both teams hold 9-14 records, Brose is in 11th place and Zvezda 12th. The hosts took the lead for good in the second quarter, which they finished with a 10-1 run to open 46-36 lead. They then used a 17-3 third-quarter spurt to break the game open. Dorell Wright shined with 21 points, making 5 of 7 triples, grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing 4 assists. Dejan Musli amassed 13 points and 13 rebounds, Lucca Staiger netted 12 points and Augustine Rubit scored 10 in victory. Mathias Lessort had 12 points and 6 rebounds for Zvezda, while Branko Lazic and Taylor Rochestie scored 11 apiece.
Zvezda scored the first 7 points of the night, including Milko Bjelica's corner triple, but Brose quickly caught up. Wright hit a three from left side, and Ricky Hickman knocked one down in transition from the right. Another three, from Nikos Zisis, tied it 11-11. That was not the end of three-point barrage, as Daniel Hackett and Dylan Ennis traded triples and Wright added another for the hosts. However, Alen Omic scored inside and Ennis hit again from the outside to put Zvezda ahead 21-23 after 10 minutes. Appropriately, Staiger hit a triple to open the second quarter and Musli's layup had Brose in front 32-25. Zvezda rallied with Dejan Davidovac scoring from long range and in the low post, and Lazic hitting one from downtown, to close within 36-35. But Rubit from close range and Wright with a left corner triple sparked a 10-1 run that put Bamberg in front 46-36 at halftime.
The teams traded blows early in the third, as Lessort and Rochestie scored on one end while Rubit downed 6 consecutive points for Brose. Wright added a three-point play then assisted Hickman for a corner triple that helped break the game open, 62-42. While the visitors were held without a field goal for more than 6 minutes, Wright's four-point play made it 69-45 after three quarters. Rochestie cut into the deficit with 5 points at the start of the fourth quarter, but Wright and Zisis hit three-pointers to keep the visitors at bay, as Brose cruised to a big win.
