Besiktas ColaTurka held off a late FMP charge to record a 77-76 home win that leaves the club as the lone undefeated team in the ULEB Cup after eight games. Rick Apodaca’s free throw with 10 seconds remaining proved to be the difference after Zoran Erceg missed a chance to win it for the visitors with 2 seconds left. Preston Shumpert left the game in the first period with an injury, but returned for a huge second half in which he saved Besiktas. Shumpert finished the game with a season-high 27 points, including a perfect 10 for 10 from the charity stripe and 6 rebounds. Kaya Peker added 15 points and Sando Nicevic 10 for the winners. The victory wrapped up first place in Group B for Besiktas, which is now 8-0. Meanwhile FMP’s already slim chances to reach the elimination rounds just about evaporated with the loss. Erceg led FMP with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Miroslav Raduljica and Dragan Labovic added 11 points each and Predrag Samardziski scored 10 in defeat. Besiktas took control early and had a double-figure advantage after 10 minutes. FMP tied it at 39-39, but Apodaca and Christian Dalmau gave the hosts a 44-40 halftime lead. FMP took its first lead late in the third and the game was a thriller from that point. A pair of three gave the visitors a late 69-75 lead, but Shumpert led a 7-0 charge and even with the score tied with 14 second to go, Apodaca stood up to win it from the line.

It was an impressive start from the group B leaders with Peker and Dalmau giving the hosts a 10-2 lead. Erceg kept his team alive with a triple to get within 16-11. Then a 6-0 charge plus a layup by Erkan Veyseloglu put Besiktas up 24-13 after 10 minutes. Four points from Peker and a layup from Sinan Guler extended the hosts’ lead to 16 points midway through the second period. FMP responded by starting to press the ball and it worked as the visitors reeled off 9 straight points, capped by a Samardziski dunk to make it 35-28. FMP kept pushing Besiktas hard on defense and found many fast breaks. Labovic free throws soon tied the game at 39-39. Dalmau and Apodaca scored 5 points game in the last minute of the first half to give Besiktas a 44-40 lead at halftime. Besiktas started the second half by returning Shumpert, who left with an injury in the first period. Peker got going with a pair of buckets, but FMP was still hot in the game and reduced the difference to a single point. Then Branko Lazic’s triple gave the visitors their first lead at 53-55. Still Shumpert came back with 6 points in the last minute-and-a-half to make it 59-57 at the end of the third quarter. FMP kept Besiktas scoreless for nearly three minutes at the start of the fourth quarter to take back the lead again on an Erceg three and a Samardziski layup. Shumpert kept struggling Besiktas afloat, but Nemanja Protic and Lazic hit threes for FMP. Lazic’s three made it 67-72. With 85 seconds to play, Labovic’s free throws gave FMP a 69-75 lead. Besiktas used a 7-0 charge started by a Shumpert three, followed by Peker free throws and then a layup by Nicevic to regain the lead with 28 seconds remaining. Nemanja Protic’s single free throw tied the game again at 76-76 with 14 seconds to go, but Apodaca put one of his two free throws in the rim 10 seconds before the end to bring the victory to Besiktas to remain as the only unbeaten team of the competition. Erceg missed the last attempt 2 seconds before the end and FMP failed to end the winning streak of Besiktas and to take the revenge.

"We didn't play well tonight. We weren't able to find score from Rick Apodaca. That was one of the problems tonight. We were not good enough to defend the 16-point differance because of lack of concentration. But anyway, it's good to come back from 6 points behind just in a minute and a half. I heard that Joventut Badalona lost in Ankara. So it means that we are the only team unbeaten after the eighth game. That sounds really good. But our main target is to finish the competition unbeaten at the end of the final game."

"I'm really very sad that we lost a game which we came very close to win. Luck was not on our side in the last minute but this is not the reason why we lost. 21 turnovers is too much for a team trying to win. And also the lack of experience in the last minutes was one of the reason for our loss."

"It's good to have luck on your side when you play bad. That's what happened tonight. But of course, you only have the luck beside you if you want it so much. This is what we did in the last moment. We are a very experienced team, with experienced players. I only tried to do my job as well as I can, that's all. By the way, I congratulate our opponent for their great effort. FMP Zeleznik is a young but talented team that they challenged very well in the game. But experiance is always the most important thing when it comes to play the critical moments."
