U18 Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas came back from a 15-point deficit to beat U18 ALBA Berlin 54-60 for its first victory in Group A at the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Torneig de Bàsquet Junior Ciutat de L’Hospitalet. Biram Faye scored 14 points to go with 8 rebounds while Javi Lopez collected 11 points, 6 assists, 4 assists and 4 steals for Gran Canaria, which next faces U18 Union Olimpija Ljubljana later Friday in Group A. Badu Buck tallied 17 points to pace Berlin, which will take on U18 FC Barcelona Lassa later in the day.   

Buck scored 5 points as Berlin opened a 10-2 lead. After missing its first 9 shots, Gran Canaria got back into the game thanks to Faye’s inside presence to go ahead 10-11. Max Stoelzel’s three-pointer at the buzzer made it 13-11 after 10 minutes. The combination of Jonas Mattisseck and Philipp Herkenhoff helped Berlin push the lead to 28-13. And the Berlin cushion was still 30-21 at halftime. The German side was up 40-27 when Lopez spurred on an 0-11 run to make it 40-38. And Gran Canaria trailed by just 1 point 43-42 after three quarters. Luis Melian’s three-pointer gave Gran Canaria its first lead 45-46 and Babacar Fam’s strong play at both ends helped push the margin to 47-54. Lopez and Melian both made two free throws in the final 20 seconds to ice the game.
