Jones, Hamilton carry Darussafaka to 2-0

Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul grabbed its second win in as many games with a 72-65 decision over visiting Nanterre 92 in Group C of the 7DAYS EuroCup. Jarrod Jones scored 16 points and Johnathan Hamilton collected 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks while Doron Lamb picked up 9 points and 7 assists in the victory. Dallas Moore came off the Nanterre bench as the team's main weapon with 21 points. Kenny Chery was the only other visitor to score in double figures with 14 points to go with 6 rebounds. The French side dropped to 1-1 in the group.

The guests used offensive rebounds to good effect early, scoring their first three baskets on second attempts for a 6-7 lead. Back-to-back three-pointers from Chery had Nanterre even at 13-13 before the hosts went on a 10-0 run to close the quarter with three baskets assisted by Lamb for a 23-13 lead after 10 minutes. Moore's three-pointer to start the second quarter snapped the drought and Nanterre managed to cut the gap to 26-21. Dogus Ozdemiroglu answered with 6 straight free throws to increase the margin to 38-26. The guests nailed 3 more three-pointers but still trailed 42-34 at the break. The low-post combo of Hamilton and Jones was too much for Nanterre as the hosts extended the cushion to 14 points, 54-40. Jean-Marc Pansa picked up 2 baskets and a block for Nanterre, but the lead was still 59-47 after 30 minutes. Darussafaka failed to score a basket in the first 5 minutes of the fourth quarter, allowing 2 three-pointers by Moore and another from Chery to draw Nanterre within 63-61. Hamilton responded with a tip-in and Kartal Ozmizrak nailed a triple inside the three-minute mark to make it 68-61. Jones followed with a jump hook and jumper at 72-65 with 24 seconds left, putting the game safely in the hands of Darussafaka.

Pivotal performer

Jarrod Jones not only led Darussafaka with 16 points but he hit 8-of-10 two-point shots, including a pair scores within the critical final 69 seconds. He also collected 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.

Cleaning the offensive glass

Nanterre was all over the offensive glass with 16 offensive rebounds to just 13 on the defensive end. The French side's first 6 rebounds and 8 of first 9 were on offense.

Telling numbers

Darussafaka converted on 68.6 percent of its two-point shots and held Nanterre to just 25.6 percent on twos.

Head Coaches

ERNAK, SELCUK
Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul
"Last week we saw how important it is to win games on your home court. We kept a very talented and offensive team to 65 points. To be able to do that I really appreciate the effort of my players. The stats are not that important today, but the reaction is."
DONNADIEU, PASCAL
Nanterre 92
"The home team deserved to win. They were more aggressive, more intense. They dominated the whole game and we had too many ups and downs to get the win. We have a rather new team, nine of the players are new and tonight some of the players went through the game without making an impact."

Players

MOORE, DALLAS
Nanterre 92
"It was up and down for us throughout the game. We started okay but they picked it up in the middle of the second quarter. In my opinion, we just need to fight better. Shots come and go, sometimes they fall, sometimes they don’t. But we need to be better at the defensive end."
